Gboard Just Got Better: You Can Finally Change the Font Size

Mumbai

Google’s Gboard has long been one of the most popular Android keyboards, thanks to its speed, accuracy, and smart features. Now, it’s getting a small but mighty upgrade that could make a big difference to your typing comfort — you can finally adjust the font size of the keys.

Why This Matters

Until now, Gboard let you change the overall keyboard height, but the text inside the keys stayed the same size. That meant if you wanted bigger letters, you had to make the whole keyboard taller — taking up more screen space. With this new update, you can resize just the font without affecting the rest of your display.

Whether you want larger letters for better visibility or smaller text to fit more on screen, this new control gives you the flexibility to make Gboard truly yours.

How to Change Gboard Font Size

Here’s how to try it out:

  1. Update Gboard to the latest version from the Google Play Store.

  2. Open any app where you can type and bring up the keyboard.

  3. Tap the gear icon ⚙️ on the suggestion bar (or go to Settings > System > Languages & input > On-screen keyboard > Gboard).

  4. Select Preferences.

  5. Look for the new Font size option under the Appearance section.

  6. Use the slider to set your preferred size — anywhere from 85% to 200%.

Pro tip: This is different from “Keyboard height” — height changes the whole keyboard’s vertical space, while font size changes only the text inside the keys.

Rolling Out Gradually

Google is rolling out this feature in stages, so if you don’t see it yet, you might need to wait a little longer or join the Gboard beta program to get early access.

In Closing

It’s a small tweak, but one that could make typing faster, easier, and more comfortable — especially for those who’ve been squinting at tiny letters or struggling with cramped keys. With font size control, Gboard is now more customizable than ever, giving you a keyboard that truly fits your style and needs.
