Meta’s Muse Is Turning AI Into a Personal Agent

Meta is moving its AI strategy beyond chat with Muse, an agent designed to help users accomplish tasks rather than simply respond to questions.
The company has recently expanded Muse across its AI ecosystem, including bringing it to AI glasses and introducing a version aimed at small businesses.
Muse is designed around goals
The basic idea is different from a traditional chatbot.
Instead of asking an AI to perform every individual step, a user can give Muse a broader goal and let it work through the task.
For businesses, Meta says Muse can connect to services such as Shopify, Slack, Canva, Dropbox, Figma, QuickBooks and Notion, among others.
Meta says users remain in control: actions such as publishing, sending messages or spending money require approval.
AI is moving into applications
This approach could make AI considerably more useful because much of the work people do on computers already involves moving information between different services.
A business owner might need to review customer information, update a store, prepare marketing material and coordinate with a team. An agent could potentially connect those separate steps instead of treating each one as an isolated request.
That is the larger idea behind agentic AI: the AI becomes a layer between the user and the software they use.
The challenge is trust
Giving an AI access to more applications also creates new risks.
An agent needs to understand permissions, avoid taking unintended actions and clearly communicate what it has done. Recent reports involving Muse have also highlighted why those safeguards matter when an AI system can interact with real-world services.
Meta's expansion of Muse therefore isn't simply about making AI smarter. It is also an experiment in determining how much control people are willing to give an AI that can act on their behalf.
The technology is still evolving, but Muse shows where Meta sees personal AI heading: less like a chatbot you visit and more like an assistant that can work across the services you already use.
